Today is my middle daughter Kendra's birthday. I have so many thoughts going through my head - where did the time go, what a great person she is, and how much I truly love my life (and her)! I hope all you students can look back on your life as an adult and be happy with most of what you see.
In Literature 9 we reviewed the power point Art of Persuasion. We discussed at great length "The Gettysburg Address". Abraham Lincoln was an eloquent man and author, but at times he thought his message failed to reach his intended audience. To give one of the most famous addresses and then to have no reaction - no applause, no "hooting or hollering" - nothing. How humbling that must have been. Yet it is seen as one of the most beautifully written speeches in history.
In English 10 we heard the last of our speakers, and then began to focus on our next program. Finding literature that we want to read aloud is always a daunting task. The way to conquer that task is to get started. Sometimes we just sit there and think I don't know where to begin, but then we forget to begin anyway. Remember if you have any questions, just ask.
In American Government we finally finished those reading probes. I've been avoiding them for a month now. Then we discussed English and early American legacies. Even though we're extremely frustrated with our government and its ineffectiveness, where else in this world would you want to be? At least we can gripe without fear of imprisonment or worse. At least we can vote. At least we can speak, worship, discuss, etc. I do hope, however, our representatives and Senators remember that they are our employees, and they need to start playing nice in the sandbox.
Have a great weekend! I'll see you Monday.
