What a beautiful day! Granted I haven't been outside yet, but the skies are blue, the sun is shining and life is good. We have such amazing students here that it's always great to come to school. I'm blessed - really blessed.
In Literature 9 we took a few minutes to watch a fun video. Then we discussed why the people "liked" the form of justice set up by the king. Who likes watching other people's lives completely changed? We then discussed the difference between major and minor, round or flat, and dynamic or static characters. We had some really good conversation over that. Then we discussed the theme. It's easy to connect the theme of this story to the three poems (George Gray, Fiddler Jones, and Lucinda Matlock). This story is all about choices. Making choices is what makes us human. George Gray never made difficult choices because he always ran away from things. Lucinda Matlock's choices were to accept life in all its glory and tragedy. Regardless, choosing the door is like choosing a destination in life. No homework today - that is my choice! :-)
In English 10 we did a little role playing for meaningful conversations. What would happen if you were going out and the people you were traveling with wanted to go an expensive place for dinner? Would you have the courage to ask for money? Then we corrected our "Let's Be Proper" On the reverse side everyone corrected and turned in for a daily grade. Finally, we were getting to those vocabulary presentations. In one class we reviewed four words and the other three. For homework, go to Moodle and find the video of a conversation between Mr. Rogers and Jeff Erlanger. Notice the elements of a meaningful conversation. This video will be a question on your quiz.
In American Government we had our first current events discussion. I really do like those 15-20 minutes of discussing things we see in the news. I hope that we can actually get into some lively debates over a few topics. Then we broke up into our tribes and worked on our island states. Today they had to choose the form of government. They were required to choose from a list I provided. We then discussed how to protect the state from their biggest fear. For homework, they are to read a handout on Thomas Hobbes and John Locke. On the reverse side of page 4 (The State), they should complete the worksheet.
Have a relaxing Wednesday. I know I enjoy Wednesday because there are no school activities to attend.
