Day made! I was the random winner of the Days of Christmas, and then I was chosen December Staff Member of the Month! I feel so privileged. Recently I was at a crossroads about teaching - today is a day that it feels like I made the right choice.
In Literature 9 we reviewed our thirty vocabulary words, and then we took our test. Most said they thought it was easy, so they must have been taught well. Yep, I'm taking credit for how they did on their test. Such a great group of students - I really enjoy working with them.
In English 10 we're still working on our four speeches per day. I've learned about depression, Kobe Bryant (did you know his middle name is 'Bean', Nebraska football, and so much more. Other than quite a few are under time (significantly under time), the speeches are very informative.
In American Government, we discussed the basic principle of separation of powers and checks and balances. Always a difficult concept, and to be honest rather boring concept, everyone seemed to muddle through. Most are getting in and finishing their Constitution test, and I know that will help quite a few of them with their final grade.
I just randomly looked up some quotes about teaching, and I found that I enjoyed this one - "Education isn't about filling a pail, but lighting a fire." I hope I lit a few fires today!
