What a fun day! I have thoroughly enjoyed my classes today - teaching them, interacting with students, and laughing - a lot of laughing.
In Literature 9 we reviewed idioms by playing a funbrain.com/idioms activity. It's not as easy as it looks. Then we discussed the events of Chapter 12 and the kids going to Calpurnia's church. We discussed a little why this was a controversial chapter. We took our daily check and also discussed the vocabulary for chapters 11-12. We will be reading Chapter 13 for tomorrow. I have to apologize for this one - it's boring. Thank goodness it's a short chapter.
In English 10 we had a "pun" off. Each student was to bring a pun to share and we had a competition. Austin won with a very funny pun, but Kitana was close! It was a quick way to enjoy a laugh for today. Then we read Act II, Scene IV. We got to the entry of the Nurse and her conversation with Romeo. We will finish up Scenes 4-5 tomorrow, Six on Thursday, with the quiz over Act II on Friday.
In American Literature it was all about Emily Dickinson. We watched a quick video on Study.com. We learned that there were basically four themes - self-image, inner struggles, God, and the power of words. We defined lyrics, and also discovered that she uses a common meter - iambic with eight syllables on one line and six syllables for the next line. Everyone was then placed in groups of four to read the poetry of Dickinson in a choral reading fashion. We did "There is no Frigate like a Book" as a sample. I'm looking forward to Thursday and our choirs.
In Law we discussed the defense if the accused flat out didn't do it. Remember that the law needs to prove means, motive, and opportunity. An accused might bring witnesses and an alibi to the table. Then we discussed the intoxication defense, involuntary intoxication defense, and infancy defense. We were working on justification defenses when the bell rang.
All in all - a great day. Maybe if a baby would decide to come it would be an even better day!
