I'm not sure what was happening to me, but it seems like I missed blogging both Thursday and Friday. Sorry to those who were absent!
In Literature 9 we basically finished the personal essay "Sayonara". We shared our Expand Your Vocabulary words. We also took our "Sayonara" reading check. We then continued with our discussion of persuasive techniques (rhetorical devices). For tomorrow, be sure your vocabulary words are defined for "A New Generation of Americans" and your speech is labeled for those rhetorical devices. Also, I have a biography video along with reading page 158, write those notes on the back of JFK's speech.
In English 10 we discussed the requirements for our panel discussion. Our panel discussions will be 15 minutes of information (persuasion) and 15 minutes of questions/answers. Every group chose its topics. It seems like many of our panels want to discuss things that have implications here at GLR. The requirements include an elected leader who will be in charge of the introduction, conclusion, and transitions. Each member will then talk about 3-4 minutes on a topic that is a subdivision of the umbrella topic. Each group will have to create a group bibliography (proper format) and an agenda (an outline) to both Mrs. Sandbulte and the audience.
In American Literature the QR groups met again and highlighted their Transcendentalism notes that coordinated with the articles they read. We finished those Transcendentalism notes (on the reverse side of page 30). Everyone then took a reading check over Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau. Please take this check in my classroom not on your own. For homework, please take the essay "Self-Reliance" and in the margins write what transcendentalist idea each paragraph refers to.
In Law, we began our unit on eyewitness testimony. We discussed the various defenses used as an excuse. We will hit the eyewitness testimony strong tomorrow.
Have a great day!
