Yeah it's Friday! I'm going to really attempt not to do that every Friday for the next year, but I'm dragging, so YEAH!!! IT'S FRIDAY!!!!
In English 10 we're working on real world communication. One of the things I hate is when my daughters ask me to call somewhere. It's like they're afraid to talk to people. When I ask them "Why?" Their response is always, "I don't know what to say!" So in English 10, we're trying to solve for that. Today we worked on calling and asking questions regarding renting an apartment. What questions would we ask, how would we start the conversation, etc. I'm hoping to expand this unit by bringing individuals in for interviewing, ordering a restaurant (1/2 the class say they won't order a pizza), and other "real world communication" opportunities. We then took a few notes on the listening process. They should be working on their Past, Present, and Future Speech Outline.
In American Literature we finished our discussion of Native American literature and its impact on our culture. I answered any questions I could regarding their novel project. They then took a quiz over the material covered so far this year. We then reviewed four vocabulary words (again many did not have these defined and lost participation points). We'll meet again on Tuesday after Labor Day.
In Literature 9 we finished talking about chronological order, narrative essay, and "A Brother's Crime". We then introduced the concept of inference (prior knowledge combined with what we learn equals an inference). Then we started a puzzle type activity called Zooley. We didn't quite get it done, but we'll finish up on Tuesday.
Have a great Labor Day Weekend. Remember to thank those people who work hard every day!
