Cloudy day, but hey, if it isn't snowing, we're all happy.
In Literature 9 we discussed the importance of family as seen in Chapter 9. We're introduced to Aunt Alexandra, Uncle Jack, Frances, and Jimmy (if we can count him as he doesn't say too much). We learn some important new information - Atticus is going to defend Tom Robinson, a black man. There's a lot of exposition in this chapter, and it's important to the second half of this book. For tomorrow, work on the vocabulary as we will read Chapter 10 in class together.
In English 10 we used a graphic novel to read Act 2, Scene 1-2. It was a different take on the balcony scene, and even though I'm a purest (it eliminated some lines), it did a good job capturing the essence of their love. Man, those two kids move fast. For tomorrow, read for 10 minutes and complete half of the vocabulary words.
In American Literature, it was all about the first chapter of Of Mice and Men. We did an activity analyzing various book covers and posters. We looked at them for setting, characters, plot, and possible themes. We then looked at the conversations between George and Lennie. We took our reading check, and I would hope after all our discussion people did all right. I distributed a worksheet where you are to highlight George's characteristics in yellow, Lennie's in green, and references to an animal in orange. Then on the reverse side, we took some notes on the exposition. You will need to answer questions #2-3 on the reverse side. For Thursday, read Chapter 2.
In Law, we finished up our notes on Torts (offeree/offerer). We then began to take notes on the four elements of a tort - duty, violation of duty (negligence, intentional, and strict liability), injury, and causation). We will align those elements to the articles I asked everyone to bring in.
Have a great Tuesday! Good luck to any athletes that may be performing tonight.
