I'm back but in a great deal of pain. I'm not sure how many more days I can take of this. It comes on so suddenly, and it's so very painful. Oh well, suck it up will need to be my motto for the week.
In Literature 9 we watched a short video about the differences between sarcasm and verbal irony. Sarcasm is often ironic but with a hint of mockery. We then worked on A, B, and C of our Irony Workshop. We circled the ironic words (the words that are essentially opposite), identified whether it was verbal or situational, and then indicated why the irony. We then reviewed the words from Expand your Vocabulary. Finally, we were able to discuss the use of suspense in a story - shorter sentences, monosyllabic words, topic, and abrupt ending. For homework, complete D, E, and F of your Irony Workshop.
In English 10 we had several book talks during the sixth-hour class, just one in seventh hour. We then discussed the blocks to listening, and I even tried to prove how music can be quite the distraction. In 7th hour we were able to discuss the purposes of listening as well as go through a few examples, not so in 6th hour. For homework, everyone is supposed to complete the exercise on compound sentences and commas. Each person was assigned one propaganda technique they are to read about and summarize. We will be working on this for the next few days. It will help us be discerning listeners.
In American Literature we worked in our dig groups on a quiz related to the artifacts. Then I started to discuss those artifacts, but unfortunately, we didn't get too far. We will have to finish up Thursday (or possibly next week). Thursday will be about book talks and vocabulary lessons. This class seems to just fly by!
THe day is over, and I survived - barely. Hopefully, with some rest, things will go better tomorrow.
