Yeah, it's Friday. But I have so much work to catch up on, I might as well put out a cot and sleep here. Oh well, that's the life of a teacher.
In English 10 we took our vocabulary quiz over our words related to jobs and professions. There were some big words there, but it's all about breaking them down into workable syllables. Then we had time for a few speeches. We'll finish up our informative unit next week, take our unit test, and then the final week, we'll do some specialty speeches (speech of introduction, a tribute speech?)
In American Literature it was all about the nonconformity. Be your own person! Trust Yourself! Walk to the Beat of your own drummer! Thoreau and Emerson was alive in class today. We had one presentation today, and the other will need to be completed on Tuesday. We'll move onto Walden, the story of Thoreau and his attempt to simplify his life. There is some wonderful advice in his book.
In Literature 9 we took a skills quiz. I'm trying, as a teacher, to make everyone understand it's not about the stories, but the skills we're developing as we read. The first part of the quiz was identifying irony, and the second was whether characters are positive, negative, or neutral. I'm curious to see how everyone does. Then we took a quick check over "The Cask of the Amontillado". We'll finish up our short story unit next week.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. It's supposed to be nice.
