In Literature 9 we were introduced to a great modern author Anna Quindilen. She has really impacted a lot of people with her writing for the New York Times, her novels, her nonfiction, and her self-help books. We reviewed the vocabulary used in "Put Down Your Backpack". We didn't have a lot of time to get into evaluating the evidence. We did take a reading check. The homework assignment is a lot of fun as it allows for that creativity.
In English 10 I got the feeling that a lot of the speakers weren't prepared to go. Good thing that we didn't get to too many. Students are really getting used to using the format for evaluating each other, and I'm thrilled that it's working so well. Thank heavens for Google.Docs. We will soon be giving "speeches" rather than oral reading, and that will increase stage fright and nervousness. We're going to try and address those issues head on.
In American Literature we discussed one my favorite people - Ben Franklin. He was such a character, and his impact is felt hundreds of years later. Taking such an illogical idea - trying to be perfect - and making it as logical as possible. I know that in situations like making goals or resolutions, I don't have the perseverance he demonstrated. He really has something to say to all of us.
It's only Tuesday, and I'm overwhelmed with the things that appear on my to-do list. It's getting harder and harder to keep my head above water. I guess I should just take the advice of Dori (from Finding Nemo) "Just keep swimming, just keep swimming!"
