It seems like a lot of students are dragging today, and I guess I have to admit that I am a little too. Maybe we aren't ready for the colder weather that is coming in, or the schedule and the routine of school has finally caught up with us.
In English II I returned our Parts of Speech check. They were ugly. For kids who indicated that they were doing well on their review exercises, the check did not reflect that at all. So rather than kill grades academically, correct them, and we'll give it another go. We then finished with our Listening Notes and began to discuss Propaganda Techniques. We didn't get quite as far as I had hoped, but we should be able to finish up tomorrow. They will upload their vocabulary presentations tomorrow.
In American Government we completed our United Nations directive. This was my first attempt at something along this line. I'm not sure that it really was a project based as I had hoped. Some students struggled with analyzing the data and then drawing conclusions, but there was definitely some good ideas presented. We will now discuss the choices that states make in choosing the best governments for their people.
In Literature 9 we discussed the difference between an autobiography, memoir, and biography. Maybe this should have been done a little earlier, but we got to it now. We then watched a short video clip on the impact of Richard Wright. He had such an impact on our literature and culture. Reading an excerpt from his book forces us to look at things beyond just the color of our skin.
Have a great Wednesday, and maybe get just a couple extra minutes of sleep!? Maybe then it'll look like there's some energy out there.
