Finally, the building is warm enough to function. Yesterday I was so cold, but today, I've been very comfortable. In fact, the window in the back of my room is open.
In Literature 9 we discussed the culpability (responsibility) of Fortunato to his own death. Because he was obsessed with the Amontillado, is he responsible, partially responsible, or not responsible at all for his death? We started our workshop on characterization. We discussed how every author chooses his/her own words carefully to elicit a shared response. We then finished out our vocabulary (antonyms). For homework, everyone is to complete the CLOSE worksheet. This will definitely help those that maybe were a little confused.
In English 10 we finished our vocabulary presentations as well as a few book talks. We took notes on our vocal personality. We discussed inhalation plus exhalation equals respiration. Humans speak on exhaled air, and we then had fun with a rubber band and some blown air. That is how the vocal chords work. For homework, there was a worksheet on nonessential phrases and commas.
In American Literature we had several book talks, and then we had time working with our vocabulary teams. I introduced very briefly our new focus - courage in the military. Our anchor piece will be Red Badge of Courage with a few supplemental pieces "In Flanders Fields" and a nonfiction piece about the Tuskegee Airmen. For homework, everyone is to complete the worksheet on "In Flanders Fields."
The cross country team did another fantastic job. I hope everyone can stay healthy for Thursday's district meet.
