I'm so excited for game seven tonight. Go CUBS!!!
In Literature 9 we finished discussing "Sweet Potato Pie." We talked about things like why Buddy was successful, but his siblings weren't - or were they? What did Buddy really think of his parents ("eternal mountains"), and finally what that brown paper sack truly meant. Then we took our quiz over these two stories.
In English 10 we had a "guest" visitor - Lucinda Matlock. We discussed the advice that was given by George Gray, Lucinda Matlock, and Fiddler Jones. Then in small groups they discussed how they could give advice "from the grave" for their Mayflower Project. Then we finished up our vocabulary presentations. As a study aid, they should group the stories into smaller groups (words related to groups re-group :-) ). Some possible headings for these new groups could be "family & friends," "politics/international words," "secrecy," and "social groups". Hopefully this will help them really differentiate between the words that have similar meanings.
In American Government we discussed the shootings in Des Moines and a few political events. We're all going to be glad when Tuesday gets here. Everyone was told we're flipping class periods on Monday. Students will go to Personal Finance on Monday and Government on Tuesday. That way we can 'enjoy' the election together. We continued to take notes on capitalism and the mixed market system. I am trying to arrange a small business forum for class so kids can talk to people who are trying to run their own business.
The play is on Friday and Saturday, and I highly recommend buying a ticket to this very VERY funny show.
