What a wonderful day! I attempted something new today - a book tasting - and it was a great success. I set up the classes as if they were getting on a plane. I handed each of them a passport (where they will put the title, author, and rating for finished book) and a boarding pass (a bookmark for them to keep track of interesting books. With snacks at each row, they had four minutes to taste the book (read the title, look at the cover, read the back or flaps, and begin reading the book itself.) After tasting the book, they then shared what they read with a table mate. Thirty seconds were given to walk around and look for a new seat and also get a drink of water if needed. It was a great success (or at least I thought so.)

Then for 13 minutes groups were told to read various articles related to Hurricane Harvey. As a group, they were looking for examples of how the governments (local, state, and federal) were meeting those needs. We then discussed our current events requirements. For Wednesday (it's Labor Day), they are to write a letter to the President outlining their concerns, worries, or challenges. Please follow proper punctuation and
