A four-day weekend is so nice, but there is a dark side. It takes a few days to get back into the swing of things again. I know that I'm dragging as well.
In Literature 9 we started with a Padlet and a few links related to Mount Everest. Then, as a class, we read the biography of Jon Krakauer, filled in our worksheet. I then read the first part of the tragedy of 1996. For tomorrow, finish the story and the worksheet. This will be a fun experience for all of us!
In English 10 we watched a TED talk about Elizabeth Smart. We then applied the Monroe Motivational Sequence to her speech. We realized that all of us have circumstances where we want to give up and believe me, she has the story to prove it. But it's about what effect is that going to have on the rest of your life. What does it take to move forward? I then had quick conferences with each sophomore to determine if their topic is indeed a persuasive topic and can they prove there is a problem. For tomorrow, work on the exercise on parallel structure that is found on No Red Ink.
In American Literature it was like pulling teeth. I wanted to have a discussion, but no one wanted to talk. It was frustrating! Class would have been so much more interesting if I could have had some feedback. Oh well, I like to hear myself talk (I really don't). We discussed the motivation behind each of the characters actions. We didn't have enough time to discuss the qualities of a tragic hero, but I plan to send this out in an email. Our test is on Thursday.
In Law, we started our criminal unit. We took notes on the elements of a crime - duty, violation of duty, intent, and criminal liability. We will finish that up tomorrow. For homework, find an article about a crime in Iowa. Be prepared to share.
Have a great Tuesday! Good luck to the boys tonight!
