What a weekend! It flew by, so I don't feel as prepared for a Monday as I usually am.
In Literature 9 it is going to be an attempt to get both first hour and eighth hour to connect. When we have an early out, I think that is the biggest struggle. In Literature 9 today we're going to study the autobiography Black Boy. We tried to look at how important a personal connection to a story can be for retention of the information. We may not know what it is to grow up black in the 1930's in the heart of Mississippi, but we may be able to relate in other ways. We went over the vocabulary, tied things to personal experiences, and discussed the concept of anecdotes.
In English 10 we finally finished our product speech. We will finish up also our study of subject complements (predicate adjectives and predicate nominatives). Then we only had time to distribute vocabulary related to mythology. We will select our word tomorrow along with finding a topic to motivate. I provided several websites to help people find the best topic. This speech will be 3-5 minutes.
In American Government many of the seniors were gone for Homecoming. We went on anyway. We finished our discussion of how formal amendments are added to the Constitution. We also reviewed each amendment found in the Bill of Rights. Everyone has a set of scenarios they need to go through and answer before Wednesday. I also distributed the beginning of our study guide. That too needs to be completed before Wednesday. We probably won't have a Current Events discussion this week, but may save it for Monday.
In Law, ironically, we're also talking about the Bill of Rights. We reviewed some scenarios, and then everyone took a check. I think, by the look of things, it went o.k. We will be reviewing legal vocabulary tomorrow and moving on to statutory law.
Good luck to the Homecoming Court. I know that this is a big deal for all of you. Any one of you will make an excellent queen or king. Just have fun!
