After an early out, no school, and then a late start, it's really difficult to get back into the swing of school - lesson plans, speech, etc. On top of all that, I had to attend a conference today. The timing is not so great.
In Literature 9 (only 5th period met), Mrs. Meester first distributed the vocabulary for the book Black Boy. We are reading an excerpt from his autobiography. Everyone was supposed to review the differences between autobiography, biography, and memoir. Then she distributed a worksheet entitled "Personal Experiences". We can't possibly understand what it's like to grow up in the segregated South; however, we can relate to some of the experiences Richard Wright shares. As they read in pairs/partners, everyone should stop and describe first what or when they felt the descriptor and compare it to Richard Wright's experiences. The entire story should be read for tomorrow.
In English 10 we had to suspend the speeches because I was gone. Therefore, it's a good day for grammar. Mrs. Meester shared participle phrases - notes and how to locate them. Then you were to review your homework (Exercise #6). There was an accompanying worksheet to go with it (that will be homework for tomorrow). Then Mrs. Meester shared notes over various types of audiences. This is vital for persuasive speeches.
In American Literature - which met for only 1/2 an hour - they took their Declaration of Independence quiz, and then with whatever time is remaining they worked on a digital mystery box on Frederick Douglass. There was an accompanying worksheet where you will write down the clue then how it connects to Mr. Douglass. This will be due on Tuesday.
I enjoyed the morning of my conference, but the afternoon didn't really apply to my classroom experience. I hope everyone had a good day. Good luck to all the athletes today - wrestlers and basketball players.
