Labor Day in our house means softball tournaments. For the past 32 years of our marriage, we've spent nearly every Labor Day in Steen, MN watching men's fastpitch. It's wonderful - coney dogs, pie, and usually warm weather. This year was no exception. I hope you enjoyed your three day weekend.
In Literature 9 we started class, as we will every day from now on, with 10 minutes of reading. This was actually quite difficult for me. I have in my head how far we are supposed to get in our curriculum and I see that slipping away. Again, however, I need to put my money (time) where my mouth is. If I believe reading is so important, then I need to give time to do it. I hope that you all take advantage of this opportunity. We then watched a video on "Why Read?" and Malcolm Mitchell from the New England Patriots. He is so inspiring. Then we began discussing Spoon River Anthology. We reread and shared information concerning Fiddler Jones. What a way to die - without a single regret. Compared to George Gray who seemed to have a life of regrets. We will finish this up tomorrow. Those that are going to be gone for FFA need to have their reading probe done!
In English 10 we started class, as we will every day from now on, with 10 minutes of reading. Then we corrected our capitalization assignment (a key was provided in class). Any M&M speeches that needed to be done were completed. Then we took notes on vocabulary presentations. We placed them on the reverse side of the Quality Speaking Web (to be used for homework). Get those from a classmate if you missed them. Homework for tomorrow will be watching the video on Steve Jobs (link is on Moodle). While you are watching the video, complete the web.
In American Literature we also discussed "Why read?". Then for the rest of the class period, we did our first book tasting. What time remained in class we discussed our overall question - What is an American? Are we religious? competitive? sarcastic? educated? entitled? What adjectives would you exactly use to describe an American? For homework, pick three and then prove them. If you think Americans are religious, find proof in faith attendance. If we are sarcastic, how do you know?
I'm sorry I had to duck out early today, but my husband had his monthly check up in Sioux Falls, and I've been trying to attend all those consultations. Whatever you might need, I'm sure we can solve it tomorrow morning. Have a great night!
