I was out for the afternoon yesterday. No one likes doctor's appointments, but this one allowed me to have some quality time with my daughters in Sioux Falls. It was just the break I needed to feel re-energized!
In Literature 9 we listened/watched John F. Kennedy's inauguration speech. As I listened to his words, I was struck by how prophetic his message was. Here he was entering the 1960's with words of hope and concern, and now over 40 years later, many of those same concerns exist today. I wonder what he would think. We then started to discuss rhetorical devices that President Kennedy used in his speech. We will be having a huge unit test next week, along with collecting notebooks. The end of the quarter always means a flurry of grades and tests. Time to get prepared!
In English 10 we discussed the techniques we could use to curb our stage fright. Then four (and five) speakers presented their literary programs. Next week we will be turning in notebooks here as well. There will also be a test involving Vocal Personality next week.
In American Literature we had fun reviewing rhetorical devices through print ads. We still need a little work, but we're getting there. We then took a Benjamin Franklin quiz. We started to read the Pulitzer Prize essay by Leonard Pitts, but we didn't get too far. We'll finish that up next Tuesday.
All in all, this was a good week. It had its moments, but what week doesn't. It's hard to believe that October is quickly going by, and soon November will be upon us. Let's enjoy the nice days we have as we all know the cold ones are right around the corner.
