An early out, but yet a full day. With this year's class schedule I only seem to lose one class period on early outs. It's kind of nice, yet makes for a full day.
In Literature 9 we finished our tests (not many had to finish the reading portion). Then we reviewed the vocabulary from "Cask of the Amontillado" and "The Interlopers". We watched a short clip from CBS Sunday morning about the importance of book covers. I provided directions for a book cover project. Everyone is supposed to choose one short story and create a book cover. Keeping in mind the advice given in the video (color, font, and illustration), the book cover must contain the title, an illustration, the author, and publisher (Sandbulte Publishing). The back cover should contain a summary. Don't give away the ending, but give enough information so someone would want to read the story. Finally there should be an "author's corner" detailing the author's life. This biography and summary should be in your own words and any cutting and pasting will result in an immediate zero. We will work on this most of next week.
In English 10 it was all about the personal experience speech. Also we're working on our grammar, so a worksheet on inverted sentences (sentences with the subject in unusual positions) was handed out.
In American Literature we spent a good portion of the class laughing while playing charades or Pictionary with our vocabulary words. Our quiz over that will be Tuesday. We also started our introduction of the Age of Reason and nonfiction in American Literature. This week is the final posting for our novel project with all books being done by Thursday.
I hope everyone has a great weekend.
