I truly wish I'd learn how to manage time in class. It seems like I constantly overplan - I definitely plan for more than I could possibly get in a 42 minutes class period. You'd think after 25+ years of teaching I would be able to figure it out. Maybe it's just the beginning of the year, and I haven't found my rhythm yet.
In Literature 9 we started the class using a deductive reasoning skills. Then we reviewed the parts of Mrs. Sandbulte's website. Everyone should be able to located the homework due, the journal summary, and make-up work locations. I hope that it will be helpful for everyone. We also discussed Moodle and the extra credit that is listed there. We signed up for Remind, and we also got a chance to play with the play dough. Everyone shared their creations and how it reflected who they are. Finally we had a puzzle that combined letters and numbers. They provide a clue to the answer. Unfortunately I kind of threw it at fifth hour, so I hope they come in if they are confused.
In English 10 we gave our first speeches - what I learned this summer that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. There were definitely some tough lessons learned. Everyone did a great job and received a perfect score. We talked about things we learned from this first speech - we don't always say things we thought of before, it's more nervous than one would think, it's less nerve-wrecking than what was first thought, etc. We then went onto discuss the procedures for vocabulary presentations. I introduced "Words from Proper Names," and everyone choose a word. I reviewed the policy - 7 x 7, 36 fonts, definition, synonyms (3), antonyms (2), two original sentences, a method to remember the word, an image. Remember to be diligent about checking spelling and grammar.
In American Government it was our first class. They arranged themselves into some order (although one class took longer than the other). They watched my little lessons from this past summer and also filled out their blue cards. Finally we reviewed the news forum procedure. Everyone has to post a story (10 points), respond to my article with a threaded discussion (3 points), and respond to a classmate (2 points). This is a huge part of government class. Current Events day is always whatever day is the last day of the week for government. For example, we have government this Friday, so that is our current events day.
All in all a great day. Have a great Wednesday everyone!
