It's not really Thursday, I'm not sure where my posting went. I better just re-do it.
In Literature 9 we're heading into To Kill a Mockingbird. There is such important information in Chapter 1 that we're going to take two days to discuss. On Thursday we discussed the importance of the setting. We took time to look over a few paragraphs that had some strong imagery in them. Then we reviewed some of the vocabulary related to Chapter 1. With Expand Your Vocabulary, choose one word per chapter that might have been confusing, unclear, or you just flat out didn't know. Put it in the chart. On Friday we discussed the urban legend of Boo Radley. We read through a few quotes and interpreted what they meant for us the reader. Then we shared important information that probably should have been included in our chapter summaries. Finally we ended the class period with a reading check. Hopefully all did well. Chapter 2 is due for Monday.
In English 10 we started the class period with looking over the questions on our study guide. We reviewed a few select vocabulary words related to literary elements in Romeo and Juliet. We read Act 1: Scenes 2-3. With that we're introduced to Juliet, Lady Capulet, and the Nurse. We did a little "acting out" with these scenes. We also reviewed "Is it a Sentence?" [worksheet]. We'll need to finish this up before the quarter ends.
In American Literature we spent both days discussing the events of Chapter 3 Of Mice and Men. We annotated the chapter according to a few worksheets we're going through. We took a check over Chapters two and three. We're holding off on Chapter 4 because so many events happened in Chapter 3 - it truly is the turning point of the book. Everyone is supposed to work on a word cloud for a chosen character. I shared with them Tagxedo and Tagul. (After using Tagul), I would never return to Tagexdo.)
In Law we're working on our criminal unit. We discussed the four elements of a crime (duty, violation of duty, intent, and criminal liability). Then we looked at some crimes and determined whether they were crimes or not. Everyone is supposed to bring in an article on crime to class on Monday.
There, I think I'm caught up. Sorry if you were absent, and I didn't have this up. I don't know where my mind has been lately. I hope you have a good week.
