Another week under way. I can't believe how fast time can fly. Midterm is right around the corner, and I'm still trying to get the freshmen names down.
In English II we had the first of our vocabulary presentations. Some have forgotten what it takes to be a good speaker - eye contact, a beginning and a conclusion, etc. I know we'll get better as time goes on. We then did what is called a gallery walk. We went out into the hallway and looked at various propaganda techniques. In groups of three we then answered questions associated with that particular poster. A reminder that notebooks will be collected on Thursday.
In American Government we discussed the various governments a country can choose. We are in the midst of watching whether another country is about to be born in the world - Scotland. Then the assignment for Wednesday - they are to create a one-minute video explaining one country: the definition, three countries (past or present) that have had that type of government, and then what would it look like for the average citizen living under that country's government. This assignment can be done with pictures or words. This isn't an entry into the Academy Awards short film division, but be creative and have fun.
In Literature 9 we continued with our discussion of the autobiography Black Boy. He was quite the young man to stand up to all those around him and persevere. We will finish our jigsaw tomorrow, retake the reading check and then share our six word memoir. We will then be introduced to Maya Angelou (one of my favorites). It looks like it will be a good week!
Good luck to the JV Football team and the Cross Country team!
