So everyone is a little sore and some are quite tired from last night's game. Even though the score didn't turn out quite the way we wanted, it was a good game, and the team showed a lot of heart.
In Literature 9 we read an article on the origins of Labor Day. Our country essentially began in 1620 and is successful because of hard work. The rest of the world had a three thousand year headstart, yet the United States in less than 500 years have catapulted to the front because of hard work. We then uploaded our 10 question reading check to Moodle. We began our discussion of the story "Of Dry Goods and Black Bow Ties," specifically author's purpose. We watched a cheesy video and began to discuss author's purpose. We also reviewed the rest of the vocabulary.
In English 10 we finished up our Past, Present, and Future speeches. Everyone is doing wonderfully, despite the nerves. Some observations include: most are trying really hard to follow a format for a speech, most are trying to speak loudly and clearly, and most are trying to make time. Some didn't necessarily follow the perimeters for the speech. The three items are to describe you...not simply have you describe them.
In American Literature we are studying the Puritans and their legacy. It was very ironic (and a little creepy) that this morning on my radio station it discussed the legacy of Jonathon Edwards, a great Puritan minister. I think someone somewhere is watching my lesson plans. We reviewed all the vocabulary for both Native American and Puritan literature. We then began to discuss the basic philosophies of the Puritans.
I hope everyone has a relaxing and enjoyable three-day weekend. See you Tuesday!
