Today is just lovely. I've had the windows open, and I've thoroughly enjoyed the breeze coming in.
In both Literature 9 and English 10 we picked new seating spots. We used a dice and a spinner, and things seemed to work. I like this moving around every month.
In Literature 9 we finished taking our notes on Point of View. We then moved on finishing up our discussion of "Sweet Potato Pie". We had some great discussions about George Gray, Fiddler Jones, and Lucinda Matlock, and we tried to tie it with "A Dreamed Deferred" by Langston Hughes and the theme found in "Sweet Potato Pie". Tomorrow we will be taking a quiz on these two stories.
In English 10 we are also discussing "Fiddler Jones" and "George Gray," but in another context. We're preparing our monologue for our Mayflower Project, and "Spoon River Anthology" works well with this. We discussed how we want to have some kind of "advice from the grave" in our presentation. We then had five more vocabulary presentations, with the intention of finishing them up tomorrow and taking our quiz on Thursday. Finally we had just a few minutes to work on our outline. We seem to always needs about 10 more minutes in that class.
In American Literature we discussed and turned in our Primary Documents related to the Salem Witch trials. We are overwhelmed with the barbarism of this time period. Most of us can't even fathom why someone would send another to their death on a look, a pinch mark, etc. We finished watching "The Crucible," and I must say the classroom was very quiet at its conclusion. We will review for things on Thursday and take our test on Monday. (NOTE: I'm switching government and American Literature around. Government will be on Tuesday, and American Literature will meet on Monday.
Have a great Tuesday, and GOOD LUCK to our volleyball girls. Go get 'em.
