Today I think everyone's mind revolved around "cold". The building is c-o-l-d! It seems the boiler broke down over the weekend, and the result is wearing mittens, coats, hats, and walking around with a blanket to stay warm. It's hard to teach or learn when you're cold.
In Literature 9 we reviewed the elements that need to be present for a detective story. Then in groups we answered some key questions regarding the mystery described in the "Red-Headed League". There was an accompanying worksheet to complete, and most breezed through it. An agreement was proposed that if everyone read the story, and I felt like everyone was participating, then there would be no quiz over the material. However, if I get the feeling that one or two are NOT reading the assignment, then we will have a quiz on Thursday before leaving for Christmas break.
In English 10 we discussed writing our thesis. The thesis needs to be a combination of why we should listen to you and the purpose of your speech. For example, if I'm going to make a T-shirt quilt, I might use the thesis: T-shirt quilts are a wonderful way to preserve high school memories, and I can teach you this in 10 easy steps. It's not the best worded thesis, but the idea is combining why I should listen to this video and the purpose is key to the thesis (which is also the preview at the beginning of the speech and the summary at the end of the speech.) Then we played Kahoot (I sent the link out for everyone to practice), and then in groups of four, sometimes five, we started working on our study guide. Test is tomorrow.
In American Government we finished our discussion of the Great Seal. We discussed how sometimes we did, and often did not, live up to E Pluribus Unom. Working in groups, we finished the worksheet and began the study guide. Test is on Wednesday.
Still can't feel my fingers, and my toes are starting to tingle. I may have to go home and grab my parka! Stay warm everyone!
