Just a rotten day. I fell coming into school and as the day progresses, my knee and shoulder are getting more and more sore. Because of all the tragedy this past weekend, I didn't get anything done, and now I'm feeling quite overwhelmed. I guess I should take my own advice and simply breathe....
In English II we discussed Digital Citizenship and the definitions of copyright and fair use. This is something we're going to be working on all week. Then we practiced our listening skills through a Real World activity. Surprisingly many students don't know their north, south, east, or west. Then we took a few notes on blocks to listening. The students are then asked to journal when they were listening well and when they weren't listening very well.
In American Government we discussed the difference between politics and government. Then we cut our research about the three types of countries - developed, developing, and underdeveloped. Each student was put in a group and are now analyzing the information. They will then present the information, the number one problem with a possible solution to the group on Wednesday. A document and a presentation file was shared through Google Docs.
In Literature 9 we are focusing on basic reading skills - author's purpose and main idea. There will be a quiz on Friday over main idea. There are five basic purposes: inform, describe, persuade, entertain and narrate. None of the reading focused on to narrate because storytelling is often fictionalized. After a quick overview of that we moved onto commonly confused words. There are on-line activities students can practice with. Then we finished up (rather quickly) the idea of the cause/effect structure.
Hope your Monday was better than mine.
