I'm beginning to love Mondays. I show a funny video on Mondays to get us in the right frame of mind. It seems to be working - on me at least.
In Literature 9 we watched the funny video "Crazy Carrots". What a hoot! Then we reviewed the ten vocabulary words from the two stories, while also peeking at the ten words from "Expanding Your Vocabulary". Each student was then placed in a group of three or four to review the information from the worksheet. That group will also create a map showing all the points on Ship-Trap Island. This map is due on Wednesday, and everyone will have tomorrow to work on it.
In English 10 we watched the same video, but more for non-verbal communication. Then we talked about the quizzes we took last week. Many have a chance to correct their quizzes if needed, but they had to set up a time with me. It was great to see so many take advantage of this opportunity. Then we discussed the 93% of how meaning is conveyed - tone and body language. Thank you Sheldon Cooper for providing such an amazing example. Then we discussed the first point of our speech. Everyone should come in with their first point figured out.
American Government started out the same way - with a funny video. Then we reviewed and prioritized the Four Purposes of Government. We disagreed with what is the most important purpose, but that's the point of government - disagreement and debate. The class was divided into tribes earlier this year. This activity is to demonstrate the way countries and governments are formed. Those groups came up with names for their tribes and rules related to the Four Purposes of Government. We will continue to work with our tribes as the chapter continues. Back in the classroom we defined the terms unitary, confederacy, and federal forms of government. Everyone should try and have the Chapter 1-2 Guided Reading completed by the time they return to class on Wednesday. And also don't forget about Current Events!
