I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. Any chance that I get to spend with my family, especially my granddaughters, is a great weekend.
In Literature 9 it was a day of finishing one thing and starting another. We finished our discussion of "The Lady or the Tiger". We reviewed the vocabulary one last time, finished up our story maps (minus tone, mood, voice, point of view) and started our discussion of "The Most Dangerous Game." "The Most Dangerous Game" is one of the most favorite stories we read. I know that everyone will really enjoy it.
In English 10 we started class talking about nonverbal communication. Only 7% of what we communicate is done with words. Ninety-three percent of communication is tone of voice, facial expressions, body language, and attitude. We watched a video and identified the nonverbal communication that took place. We then finished our vocabulary speeches. Finally we got a little further in our notes about the Art of Communication.
In American Literature we enjoyed a funny Monday video (even though it's Tuesday). Then we discussed the journey of the Mayflower to the New World. Then we discussed the impact of the Puritan Work Ethic and how it's so prevalent here in the Midwest. To round things up we discussed the six basic principles of Puritanism. For homework, the students are to apply them to the reading (pg. 26-30).
All in all an o.k. day, but I hope I can make things a little more "lively" this week.
