So many people gone today for the FFA trip. Hopefully, we put together a pattern of responsible behavior making up the work before (or immediately after) when we miss class.
In Literature 9 we read for our first 10 minutes. (I'm going to stop writing this every day as it will be repetitive and unnecessary.) Then we had a visit from the grave - Lucinda Matlock. Lucinda scolded us for our lack of "life," that we take life for granted. "Life is too strong for you - it takes life to love life." We filled out a worksheet on her advice. For homework, everyone is to look up the five words for the "Lady or the Tiger?" - the definition (put in the upper left-hand corner), synonyms (a minimum of three), and then three of the five words found in Expand Your Vocabulary.
In English 10 we read for the first 10 minutes. Again, I'm not going to constantly write this as it should be assumed that is what we're doing. Then we compared and contrasted Ashton Kutcher's Teen Choice Award speech with Steve Jobs. We thought both of them were prepared and rehearsed. Steve used humor and Ashton used "screams". They both used several stories to support their points. Steve seemed a little more tied to his notes than Ashton, who didn't use any. We then took a check over the video. We then reviewed the requirements for the vocabulary presentation. Seventh hour had to catch up since I was gone yesterday. We put those notes on the back of the web. I presented a vocabulary word doing some things correctly and others not so much. For tomorrow, choose the words from the vocabulary list I provided. Have a backup word in case a classmate chooses your word.
In American Government we went to Moodle and looked at the requirements for the Current Events. We discussed the grading procedures (1-10 points for the information shared in the posting [7 for content, 3 for grammar], three points for responding intelligently to my news article, and two points for responding to a classmates'.) Current Events are about the only daily homework grade in American Government. If you choose to do part or none at all, you will fail. Do the math - if you only post a news article without commenting on mine or a classmates', that adds up to a 66%. Granted that's not failing, but it hurts. If you only respond, well, that's 5 points, and that is failing. We then shared our Dear Mr. President letters. Remember you should have shared them with me via Google docs. We read each other's and tried to help with editing. Then we began discussing the four elements of a state - population, territory, sovereignty, and government. We took a few notes on a graphic organizer but will finish up on Friday. For homework, watch the video on Youtube (Link is on Moodle) and complete the notes for it. There will be a quiz on Friday over this information.
Gotta love short weeks! Have a great Wednesday everyone!
