This is my first posting since the new semester began. Being sick on Tuesday (our first day back) didn't help me get organized, but as the week has progressed, I feel a little more in control.
In Literature 9 we spent time discussing the leaps that the mother took in the story "The Leap". This story is all about a mother's love for her child, but it is also about taking a risk in life. I know this story deviates a little from the previous stories read, but it has some wonderful lessons.
In English 10 we're working on finding the right persuasive topics. We've had some interesting conversations in class. It's important to really explore the various topics as you'll need to do a lot of research on this topic before it's time to give it. This speech is worth 150 points, so it's really important that you are as prepared as possible.
In American Literature we took quite a bit of time discussing our third quarter book. Don't forget to register your book on Moodle before Friday. I also reminded you that whining over this project needs to stop. So many of you complained that you don't have time to read, yet study hall is a free for all. Practice good time management and you can get it done without a problem. We then reminded ourselves of the characteristics of Romanticism and how "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" fits. We were hoping to watch this Disney movie, but it is unavailable. "The Devil and Tom Walker" is a classic Romantic story, and it appears in every American Literature textbook.
Yesterday in American Government we straightened out our notebooks. Then we started discussing Congress. There are notes over 5-1 that we will fill out as we review this information. Don't worry about headline news as we won't be doing that this week. We do have class on Friday, so we'll continue with our discussion of Congress then.
