Struggling today with a headache that just won't quit. I'm not normally an aspirin or ibuprofen type of woman, but today I wish I could hook it up to me intravenously.
In Literature 9 we started with the uncommon coincidences that Lincoln and Kennedy share. We are working on our inferences, so we were able to deduce that Lincoln visited Monroe, Maryland right before he was assassinated while Kennedy visite Marilyn Monroe a week before his death. (Creepy.) Then we reviewed for our quiz. We did pair/share then group review. Time for our first assessment, and it seemed o.k.; however, a few were definitely distracted. At the end of the class period, everyone was given their 10 minutes of reading time. For homework, define "The Sniper" vocabulary along with finishing the Figurative Language Worksheet.
In English 10 we had one of our last conversation scenarios. How to introduce a friend, spouse, or business associate at a party or other gathering. To make it fun, we made the gathering one of superheroes. You students just make me laugh! Then we worked on why the introduction and the conclusion work like the ribbon on a package. Every time you speak, you're giving your audience a gift. They're learning a little more about you with each presentation. A little time was given to work on the introduction, and then I presented a model speech. My speech was way long (good thing there was no maximum). I used the concept of banned books (it's banned book week) and how books related to my childhood, present, and future. For tomorrow, prepare to give your speeches. Practice out loud!!!
In American Government, we spent most of the first part of class discussing current events. We had some wonderful and insightful conversation about kneeling for the flag/anthem. We also discussed whether the office of the president is what it's supposed to be. Has President Trump diminished the honor behind the office? I promised that I would figure out a way to keep their Island States going into our Survivor game. We then finished our notes on Types of Government (powerpoint). For Monday watch the short video on constitutional governments.
Hopefully, with a good night's sleep and some relaxation, this headache will go away and I'll be as good as new tomorrow. Have a great Wednesday!
