Wow, the first week is already behind us. I thought it was a fantastic week, and I really look forward to learning with everyone. I hope that I can maintain this level of organization and energy throughout the year. I have my doubts, but with an optimistic attitude I can accomplish anything. (That sounds cheesy even to me!)
In Literature 9 we reviewed all of the rules and procedures discussed this past week. I added some information by talking about fire and tornado drills. I also emphasized the importance of being "nice" to my substitutes. We then created our notebook (cover sheet and table of contents). Finally we ended with a collaborative activity. Looking at the homework assignment, everyone is supposed to write down their goals for this year. Goals as in plural. Not only should we always identify ways to get better (better at school, sports, activities, and even a better person), we need to work on how to go about fulfilling those goals. The assignment is 3/4ths of a page MINIMUM, typed or written, in proper paragraph and sentence formation. For freshmen this is my first chance of getting to see the quality of work they will turn in.

In American Government, Mr. Poor Bear talked to the students about his new role here at GLR. Then we had a quick discussion of current events. I again stressed the importance of knowing what is going on in the world around us. We distributed books and filled out a textbook inventory. We also completed our cards (used for discussion). Then we started working on our Island Simulation. We didn't get too far - enough time to read the description cards and that was about it. We will finish up on Monday and then work this simulation throughout chapter 1.
All in all a great week! Hope everyone has a super weekend. See you Monday!
