I heard someone say, "I love big snowflakes." I have to agree, as long as they're drifting lazily down to earth - not hurling horizontally towards my windshield. We'll see what happens with this snow.
In Literature 9, we read for only five minutes, but then discussed a renaissance person. Maya Angelou was considered a renaissance person - someone who seemed to accomplished a wide array of things. We watched a short biography, and then we completed a worksheet that asked us to read for details. We want to learn the skill to pause and reflect before continuing to read. Have the worksheet and the story read for tomorrow.
In English 10, we had four presentations related to mythology. Then we moved on to reviewing logos and pathos. We went over the worksheet, and then discussed our rapid-fire persuasion. On your notecard, you will place your proposition statement, one piece of evidence that appeals to logos, pathos, and ethos. You can use any order you'd like. You'll basically stand by your desk and deliver the argument. We will then ask the audience whether they were persuaded or not. We will complete a total of three of these speeches - products, movie, and book.
In American Literature we discussed the history of the Pledge of Allegiance and then watched a short video by Red Skelton. Then we discussed the history of the Star Spangled Banner, and then watched Whitney Houston just nail the singing of it. We took our quiz, read for 6 minutes, and then reviewed the perimeters for the one-pager that was assigned. A one-pager is a visual analysis of the play. It will be due on Thursday, February 15th. We didn't get too much time to watch the movie, but tomorrow we're going to try and finish the entire thing - no reading, no discussion - just watch.
In Law, we finished up our discussion of Iowa courts. This took most of the class period as we also reviewed which court would handle which case. We didn't have time to share all of the court cases we researched. We'll finish that up tomorrow.
Have a great day! Good luck to the girls basketball team!
