Today was a day where I operated by the seat of my pants. It was a rough day for some students as well. It seems we're struggling with following directions, getting homework completed, and coming to class prepared. Ironically the freshmen got a rant and the English 10 students are studying a rant. Hmmm, art imitating life or life imitating art?
In Literature 9 we got a new seating chart using the words from the Gettysburg Address. We then finished our discussion the Address (only because I forgot to finish it last week). We then read the rest of the essay by Anne M. Lindburg "Sayonara". We will be applying persuasive techniques to this essay tomorrow. Complete the worksheet called Rhetorical Devices for tomorrow.
In English 10 we discussed why we rant and whether it does any good. Everyone was given five minutes to prepare, but some didn't work on their rants at all, and it was clear when they went to the front of the room. We will finish up rant speeches tomorrow (except those going to USD) and begin our research for our discussion panels.
In American Government, we finished discussing the Bill of Rights. We got started on an activity called "You Be the Judge!" We will have to finish that up on Wednesday. Current Events are due on Friday.
In Law, we reviewed the key pieces of information related to the murder. I distributed the last excerpt. At this point, we should be able to figure it out. I'm not sure as we have a lot of theories. We then continued with criminal procedure. We discussed two possible defenses - intoxication and involuntary intoxication. For tomorrow, have an article related to criminal procedure. Something like a cop forgot to read someone their rights, an illegal search or seizure. We will discuss them tomorrow.
Have a great Monday everyone! Good luck to the Swing Choir and Jazz Band.
