This week just flew by, but when you miss Monday I guess that would happen.
In Literature 9 we discussed my absolute favorite chapter in the book. This allegorical chapter recounts Atticus shooting the rabid dog Tim Johnson. We discussed what makes something an allegory and how this particular chapter fits the perimeters. We took our reading check, took a few notes, and then finished our chapter questions. We will take our quiz over chapters 6-10 on Monday as well as finish the vocabulary for chapter 10.
In English 10 we reviewed the characterization of Juliet. She is half the play title. We discussed her physically (13, beautiful), her relationships (probably aloof with mother, the Nurse is her "mom", and Tybalt is more than likely very protective), her conversations (Mom trying to convince her to marry Paris, "religious" flirting with Romeo, and the trusting nature with the Nurse) and finally her idea of marriage (she really hadn't thought about it yet). With that review, we then took our quiz over Act 1. I heard that most thought it was easy, so I'm glad.
In American Literature I introduced the famous novel The Scarlet Letter. Then we took a check over Nathaniel Hawthorne (open note), and then we reviewed four of the vocabulary words related to Criticism. Hopefully all this focus on vocabulary will be reflected in our ITED's next week. Then we analyzed the first few paragraphs of the novel for author's style (rhythm - long multi-syllabic words, word choice, alliteration, and sensory details.) We will try to get a little more under our belt next week.
In Law we finished our discussion of Criminal Defenses. We discussed mistake of fact and mistake of law, entrapment, and duress. We had the opportunity to watch a crime (BBC), but we didn't get too much time to discuss the reliability of witness testimony. We'll pick this up next week.
Next week is APRIL!!! Seriously where did this year go? Good luck to the Swing Choir and Jazz Band. Enjoy the fruits of your hard word!
