What a cold start to a day! It doesn't look (or feel) like it's going to get any warmer as the week goes on. Please students - wear your coats! The weather forecasters said that five minutes of exposed skin can result in frost bite. It's not such a hassle to go to your locker to get your coat.
In Literature 9 we had a split class. First hour met yesterday, but eighth did not. We're going to try and get both of them caught up with each other. We're working on onomatopoeia poems in first hour, but in an attempt to get students caught up, eighth hour will forego this assignment. We're reviewing the elements of fiction - crossword puzzle and a check. Story maps are a great way to learn summarizing skills, so that is something that we're going to stress for the next few months.
English 10 is getting quite frustrating. Our informative speeches are still going on, but without a whole lot of preparation or planning. Some are simply getting up front and babbling. Speech is about talking yes, but organized talking. I hope that I see more preparation for the next speech. Many students are going to need to end very strong for the quarter and the semester to pass.
In American Literature we reviewed the qualities and requirements for the Book Trailer. I showed how to use Photo Story on their computer as well as a finished product. I repeatedly asked if there were any questions, and I believe I heard a cricket chirp. Hopefully, as questions arise students come in. We then moved on to discuss Frederick Douglass. What an amazing life (and impact) he had! We have a quiz tomorrow, so hopefully everyone has read the required assignments.
Keep warm!
