I have to get back into the swing of things, and that includes blogging.
In English 10 we're in the process of going over words related to mythology. So far this week, we've had only the opportunity to review four words. We've also taken notes on persuasion and started our outlines persuading us to part with our money - buying a particular product, going to see a specific movie, etc. This week has been crazy due to Homecoming. Hopefully soon we'll be able to get back to some sort of pattern and structure. I do better with structure.
In Literature 9 we finished our discussion of the "Gift of the Magi". We also started our workshop on Point of View. We then moved onto "Sweet Potato Pie". Fifth hour was able to take their reading quiz over the story, but unfortunately seventh hour will have to take theirs tomorrow. We also have an early out this Friday, so I don't think I'm going to be able to get anyone caught up!
In American Literature we started our Great American Novels unit. We're in the process of discussing Romanticism. We watched the video on "The Highwayman", and next week we'll apply the elements of Romanticism to it. I'm excited about teaching things in a different structure and sequence. Change can be good!
In American Government we started our discussion of Congress. We've taken a few notes on districting and apportionment. Next week it will be gerrymandering and Congress. Sounds exciting to me, but probably isn't that cutting edge for my classrooms. Hopefully with a few games and lively discussions I can make things "exciting". I think I have lofty ambitions.
Good-bye!
