I was wondering when the old habit of coming to school on a Sunday afternoon was going to return. It's so quiet here that I really do get a lot done.
In Literature 9 (1st Hour) we finished our discussion of "The Most Dangerous Game". One of the reasons that this story is so famous is it's colorful language. Similes, metaphors, and personification add so much to the suspense in this story. On Moodle there is an interactive quiz related to similes, metaphors, and personification. Once the quiz opens students had one hour to complete, although they probably only needed fifteen minutes.
In English 10 (2nd Hour) we played a little "catch-up" from the several students that were gone on Thursday due to the PLAN test. Those absent were reminded to take notes on the two grammar rules concerning subject and predicates. The first rule was about a subject being in an unusual place (there, here, or question). The other was that a subject or a predicate could be compound (joined together with a conjunction.) They were reminded to review the exercises in the book. We then reviewed the notes on persuasion. They are to come to class with a product or service that they will persuade us to spend our hard earned cash on. This short persuasive speech will be either Wednesday or Friday. We reviewed the first eight vocabulary words dealing with jobs or occupations.
In American Government we finished our discussion of formal vs. informal amending - specifically the Equal Rights Amendment vs. Title IX. This is such an interesting discussion for me since most of these students see the unfairness of the situations presented (regardless of gender). We then began our discussion of the Bill of Rights - mostly Amendment #1. We will finish up our discussion of the Bill of Rights before taking our test next Wednesday.
