A somewhat dreary Monday, but from what I understand the temperature is nice. I wouldn't know as I don't think I'll be out of here until after 8:30 or 9:00.
In Literature 9 we reviewed the vocabulary for "The Last Leaf." I love the symbolism of this story because it applies to all of us. We all have leaves falling. It's our daily attitude that makes all the difference. We also reviewed the "Expand Your Vocabulary" words. We didn't have a lot of time to review the story, but we did go to the paragraph that introduced Berlman (paragraph #30) and looked to see if he was a positive or negative character. He is introduced as a negative character, but we know he does a positive thing at the end. For homework, everyone is to complete the top two rows of their story detective.
In English 10 we finished up our vocabulary presentations (7th hour). We had a book talk in sixth hour. We played a little Kahoot to prepare for tomorrow's vocabulary test. We also reviewed the comma rules for adverb phrases. We're almost done with our comma study, and that's exciting because it's one of the biggest mechanics portions there is. We didn't get much opportunity to take notes on the body of speeches, but we did spend enough time discussing the importance of working on that.
In American Government, we finished our discussion of socialism. We then applied the characteristics of the 6 Economic Functions to capitalism and socialism - the two most common economic systems in the world. We'll finish up communism on Wednesday and take our test on Friday. I distributed a handout on comparing the various economic systems. Complete both sides of the first page. Don't forget you have current events due on Wednesday.
Mondays are never easy, but learning to handle them is a life-long skill. So yeah! It's Monday.
