Another late start. Man, I don't know how we're going to get through the last few weeks when the sun begins to shine and the temperature improves.
We didn't have Literature 9 because of the late start. However, I did send out a Remind and an e-mail explaining that everyone needs to read Chapter 2. The only way we're going to stay true to our reading schedule is if we power through. Everyone's vocabulary should be completed, and we will take a check tomorrow over the reading.
In English 10 we analyzed the Prologue of Romeo and Juliet. I was really impressed how, taking it line by line, we seemed to understand a good portion of it. This is going to be fun! For tomorrow, don't forget to read your ten minutes.
In American Government, we only had class for a half of an hour, so things moved very quickly. We reviewed characteristics of the House of Representatives and the Senate. Each table had a set of cards and they were to classify them. Then I showed them the website Redistrictinggame.org. For Wednesday, everyone is to play Mission 1 (Population) and Mission 2 (Partisan). This will help you to understand the concept of gerrymandering.
In Law, we discussed the difference between an innocent person in jail vs. a guilty person going free. Which is more acceptable? We all agreed that a guilty person going free is better than knowing an innocent person sits in jail. We discussed how our legal system is designed to prevent that - to the point that maybe our legal system leans a little too far towards the criminal. We then read the transcripts of the Case of the Drowning Girl. Right now our jury is at a stalemate, and tomorrow we will continue with our deliberations. Our test will be Thursday.
All in all, a great day. With new granddaughters born 18 days apart, it's hard to find the energy to work on school. All I want to do is stare at their pictures and brood over how I can't see them. TIme to refocus. See you tomorrow!
