Today was day 70! That's amazing that so many days are already behind us. This year is truly flying by!
In English 10 we discussed how to organize all the information we're gathering for our 6-8 minute informative speech. We discussed whether a chronological, spatial, or topical order works best. (Cause & Effect along with Problem/Solution won't really work for an information speech, so we discuss them at length for our persuasive speeches.) We then discussed how to turn our topic into parallel main points. Then it was time to download our outlines. We renamed them and begun working on them. I reviewed how to make a source citation (just in case we didn't remember from science fair or the term paper). The rest of the time was spent working on preparing our outlines.
In American Literature we reviewed our tests. We then discussed the deadlines for our novel project. The last posting will be December 19th (Friday). This posting will answer the question, "How did your book end?" Then we discussed the book trailer project. The directions are posted in a shared folder from Google docs. We watched a sample one. Then everyone was put into groups and worked on a vocabulary exercise. This was a great way to review the vocabulary words without having to listen to me!
In Literature 9 we talked about dramatic irony. We then read the poem "The Blind Men and the Elephant". We applied the dramatic irony elements to a worksheet. We compared our details (from the three columns - the circus, the hospital, and the fire). We then took a check on the story. This was a little different type of check - everyone had to write a paragraph proving that he/she had read the story. I have a feeling that I got some great American novels!
Hope your Tuesday is blessed! See you tomorrow.
