It's always tough to return to school after being gone, especially when you think you'll have a few minutes to work on preparing for class, and then suddenly, you don't.
In Literature 9 we spent almost the entire class period working on Author's Purpose (persuade, inform, entertain, compare, or express PIECE). This is a much better breakdown than what I've used in the past. We took notes (Nonfiction page), and also shared our homework answers. For tomorrow, read for 10 minutes and complete the worksheet on author's purpose (on the back of cause and effect).
In English 10 we presented speeches - four of them for each class period. While I was evaluating speeches, everyone was supposed to be reading. I truly appreciate how everyone took time, recorded yesterday's speeches, and generally helped the substitute. You're a great group of kids! Mythology presentations due on Friday.
In American Government, we split into three groups - one for each branch. I distributed a handout that outlined the powers of each branch according to the Constitution. For the judicial branch, I provided a slide to take down the notes. (The Constitution doesn't say much about the Judicial Branch.) Then we played "Claim the Power." This was a fun way to introduce the information without me lecturing. We will take a few more notes on Friday, and if there is time, we'll have a quiz over Separation of Powers and Checks and Balances.
In Law, we went more in depth of the Supreme Court. We took a few notes, watched a few short video clips. We were in the middle of famous USSC cases, which we'll finish up tomorrow. Also everyone will share their information regarding the cases they researched.
I have the greatest students anywhere. For me to be gone yesterday (and it was very stressful), and I return to everything moved forward, education happened, and it was because of you. I realize that this is a horrendously long run-on sentence, but I want to say THANK YOU! You are the best.
