Today is a day that I'm trying to share with my students the power of that day. That day forever changed their (and my) future. Things are measured by that day - what was before, what happened during, and what has happened since. I tried to share photographs that I've taken since 1997 and my several trips to New York. We then watched a video entitled "Six Word Memoirs". The documentary is extremely powerful. I attached the link to my website so if desired, people can watch other memoirs.
In Literature 9 we watched the 9/11 six word memoirs. They were then instructed that they would create a power point slide (an image, six words, animation, and hopefully some kind of music) that would be their six word memoir. This is due for Friday. Students took a reading check over "All God's Children Need Traveling Shoes." We then reviewed the commonly confused words all ready/already and among/between. Tomorrow we will be working on a lesson.
In English 10 we watched the same 9/11 video. They were assigned the same project, however, they will present theirs in a memoir speech on Monday. We then went out into the hallway and finished our propaganda Gallery Walk. Tomorrow we will review on last time, and our unit test has been moved to Friday.
In American Government, yep, we watched the same video. Hey if you find something good! We then reviewed governmental systems, and then took our 1-2 and 1-3 Quiz. It seemed kind of mean, as emotions were running high, but I also feel under the gun in trying to meet my curriculum deadlines. The students were then assigned reading Chapter 1-4 on Economic Systems and taking appropriate notes.
I hope that through today's presentations students will at least stop for a moment and remember to never forget what this day means.
