Today went by really fast. It was a fun day, and I really can't say why. It was just a day where everything seemed to work according to plan.
In English 10 we reviewed finding a subject and a predicate. Tomorrow we're going to have a quiz over the four sections studied (complete subject/predicate; simple subject/predicate; subject/predicate in inverted sentences and compound subject/predicate). We then reviewed the words for the next vocabulary set (Words About Jobs). Everyone picked a word and the vocabulary presentations are due on Thursday. Then we began to take notes on the 6 C's of speaking. Research is right around the corner for this speech topic and we will need to review the evaluation process for a speech (paper).
In American Literature we discussed the differences between rhetorical devices and figurative language. There was a quick SMART board activity. Everyone seems to love going to the board. Then we turned in our resume rough draft. It should be in Google docs ready for me to look at. Then I gave a final presentation using a power point example on Thomas Jefferson. We watched a short video on Monticello (what an amazing place!). We then divided into groups of four and began working on a choral reading of the Declaration of Independence.
Literature 9 was all about irony and conflict. We started our workshop on Irony. We looked at a few ironic cartoons, and then we completed a few notes. An assignment for tomorrow is the worksheet concerning Irony. Then we finished up "The Most Dangerous Game" focusing primarily on internal vs. external conflict. We used the worksheet that was meant for "The Lady and the Tiger" and worked in groups of three coming up with two examples of external conflict and two examples of internal conflict. In fifth hour we were able to review the Commonly Confused Words, but we'll have to get to that in 7th period.
Happy Tuesday everyone!
