I'm sorry that I wasn't there today, but I somehow injured my back and am in excruciating pain. No matter how I sit, stand or kneel, a paroxysm (freshmen vocabulary word!) hits me like a landslide. Hopefully, with a trip to the chiropractor and some pain pills, I'll be better tomorrow.
In Literature 9 we started our Irony Workshop. We'll take it bit by bit for the next week as we discuss verbal, situation, and dramatic irony. This workshop sets us up for the rest of our short story unit. Next on the agenda was the vocabulary for "The Sniper". I sent a video link with today's lesson on it, so everyone should have been able to complete their notes. For homework, there is a figurative language assignment on Moodle. This assignment takes a few minutes, so don't let Moodle time you out because you close your computer or you walk away.
In English 10, everyone was supposed to pick their words from the second lesson - Attitudes and Appearances. The powerpoint for this presentation (look at all that alliteration) is on Wednesday. In pairs (and I'm guessing with a little help from Mrs. Meester), you were to go over the rules regarding Commas and Compound Sentences. As I grade senior papers, I see this as a real problem in our writing. I also sent English 10 students a video link for the notes on Listening. The Steps to Listening as well as the Blocks to Listening were topics of this YouTube video. For homework, read as well as prepare your book talks.
In American Government, I reminded everyone that current events are due on Friday. Then, using the video link everyone is to complete their notes on various types of government. There will be a quiz on Wednesday, so it's important that you study these definitions and examples. Mrs. Meester then distributed a postcard activity where you decide which government is being referred to.
After a nap and some relaxants, things are getting better. I believe I will return tomorrow - slow, but hopefully in a lot less pain than I am today. See you later!
