It is World Book Day and we had a wonderful opportunity to Skype with Mark Woods, polar explorer, climber of Mount Everest, and all around cool guy. And to make him even cooler...he lives in Stratford von Avon! How awesome is that! He presented his story at 10:00 in the auditorium and both the freshmen and sophomores were able to watch. We learned about training, how he came to be an explorer, and his views on climate change - which were very convincing.
In Literature 9 we read the biography of John F. Kennedy and compared it to the Biography.com video. We decided that the digital biography was in fact more of a memoir than the biography found in our textbook. We then watched half of the president's address (we'll get the second half tomorrow). We discussed the rhetorical devices we noticed in his speech, but we'll look a little harder tomorrow.
In English 10 we still were working on partner speeches. We discussed things like is obesity a disease? Ironically we had a debate on whether humans are responsible for climate change, and the death penalty. We had a second debate on lowering the drinking age, and again I waffled in my thoughts. Everyone is doing a great job on their research and presentation.
In American Literature (4th Hour) we took our test on vocabulary (Lessons #5-6). Then we started our discussion of Romanticism. We got a few notes in, but we have a little more to go. Therefore, I will be making a video and posting it to Moodle. That way you can watch the video, take the notes, and then apply them to a romantic piece of literature entitled "The Highwayman".
In Law we finished the last of the pivotal landmark cases of the Supreme Court. We reviewed the various jurisdiction of the state, federal, and Supreme Court. Tomorrow we will be taking a quiz over Chapter 4-2.
All in all a great day!
