I heard many times in the hallways, thank goodness it's Friday. I heartily agree. With the athletic events getting in full swing, we're all a little more tired than we were in November. Remember to get the right amount of sleep, eat well, and take time to relax.
In Literature 9 I tried something new - write our vocabulary paragraphs together. Using the six words, write a paragraph about the holidays. We had some well-written holiday insights. Then we completed our vocabulary lesson. With the extra time, everyone worked on their study guide. Test is on Tuesday.
In English 10 we worked on adverbial prepositional phrases. I think as we practice we'll get better and better and finding the modifier and determining the questions the phrases answer. Then we constructed our preview sentences from our main points (and research). Since so many of us have the same main points (history, structure, and impact), the thesis statements sound very similar. That's o.k. As we continue to write speeches, we'll find our own footing. Then we discussed the importance of transitions. Signposts (first, second, etc.) are NOT transitions; they are simply a "sign" that the next point is coming. A transition links the information from the just finished main point to the next point that will be covered. Everyone's outline is supposed to be completed for Monday. You will be given time to rehearse during Monday's class with speeches beginning on Tuesday.
In American Literature we reviewed the tremendous accomplishments of Benjamin Franklin. We discussed his generational impact (public libraries, swim fins, volunteer fire department, etc.) We took our quiz, and then tried to get a few notes in about rhetoric, but frankly (ha!) we ran out of time.
Have a great weekend everyone!
