Well, we're officially back into the swing of things. Genius Week is done, and classes have started. I have to admit that I'm glad to return to the "normalcy" of a regular classroom schedule.
In Literature 9 we cleaned out our binders and updated/deleted our G-drives. I guess I would recommend it to all students to clean out their g-drives of all unnecessary pictures, power points, and videos. These take up a lot of our memory, and if you don't need the files, why keep them? We then read the introduction to the nonfiction unit (pg. 259-260). In groups then everyone went to a Padlet (the URL was sent via email) and we discussed the top three main ideas of the page. Then it was a little Kahoot to start off the unit. We ended with vocabulary words to look up for tomorrow (along with Expand Your Vocabulary).
In English 10 it was kind of a bust. Seventh hour didn't meet at all, and sixth hour was chaotic because of the power outage. During sixth hour we cleaned out our notebooks, and started discussing the next unit, but even that was hit and miss. We'll have to catch everyone up tomorrow.
In American Literature we again started class by organizing our notebooks. Instead of getting rid of everything, we simply moved it to the back of our binders. That way when we take our open-notebook semester test, we'll be prepared. We took a few minutes to review our Rhetorical Devices quiz, which were bad. It's safe to say that we need to continue to work on these devices. Patriotic literature is something really important to me (and the Common Core). We watched a Red Skelton skit about the Pledge of Allegiance. We will be reciting that on Thursday, and then for next Tuesday we will be taking a quiz over the "Star Spangled Banner." For homework there is a little research to be completed about the history of both of those.
Hopefully the power will stay on and we will see everyone tomorrow!
