It is really hard to be inside today. It's just gorgeous outside.
In Literature 9 we had a great deal of trouble with the internet this morning first hour, but as the day has progressed, it's back to normal. We finished our impact web and Link Deas (one of my favorite minor characters). We also worked on our vocabulary (up to Chapter 28). We took our reading check for Chapters 25-27, and unfortunately that took most of the class period due to Internet issues. We'll catch up in that class tomorrow.
In English 10 we finished our discussion of Shakespeare's impact. We then tried to use the rest of the class period to review for tomorrow's test.
In American Literature we started the class period with looking over our poetry tests. They were so good. Then we discussed local color and applied it to "Murder at the Corn Crib". This was a fun 'spontaneous' activity. I was trying to figure out how students could connect local color with the regional area of northwest Iowa. This worked really well. Then I added to the elements by comparing and contrasting realism and romanticism with a tootsie roll. Realistically we would eat it; creatively we would use it as fishbait, stop a dam, use the wrappers for a book cover, etc. We then took quite a few notes on Realism and how it was a reaction to Romanticism, displayed democratic ideals, showed the tensions of an ordinary life, and it was more objective than literature of the past. Tomorrow we will be having a check over realism and Mark Twain.
In Law we discussed the elements of a tort. We discussed duty, violation of duty, injury and harm, and causation, We worked with our packet and had some great discussion.
Enjoy the outdoors today!
